A program that loads and parses some CSV fatal police shooting data collected by the Washington Post on fatal police shootings in the US from 2015-present (Sept 9, 2020). The original data is updated in near real time and so may differ slightly from the data contained in this gist.

Additional information can be found at the study web page

Possible tasks and questions to explore:

  • Do fatal police shootings occur more often in certain parts of the country?
  • What is the demographic breakdown of fatal police shootings in the US, and how does it compare to the demographics of the entire US population?
  • Are fatal police shootings becoming more or less common?

Columns of particular interest: Categorical:

  • armed
  • gender
  • race
  • location (city and state, latitude/longitude)
  • flee
  • age (used as categorical groups)

ordinal:

  • date
