A bowl of fruit demonstrates the D3 general update pattern by adding, removing, and modifying fruit shapes in an SVG scene. Over timed intervals, apples disappear and transform into lemons, with each fruit represented as a group combining a colored circle and label. The code uses D3 v5 selections with enter, merge, and exit methods, alongside scaleOrdinal for color and radius mapping, and manages data through fruit IDs for stable element binding.
