This example displays the total global COVID-19 deaths as a large, prominently styled number, along with the date of the latest data column. It loads a time series CSV from the Johns Hopkins CSSE repository using `d3.csv` and a Promise, then parses the last column’s values. The sum is computed with `Array.reduce` and formatted with `d3.format`. The resulting message is inserted into the DOM via `textContent` within a React-agnostic HTML page, using D3 v5.
