A blank SVG canvas fills the browser window, sized to the full viewport. The example demonstrates a minimal D3 v5 setup where a single SVG element is selected and its width and height attributes are set dynamically using `document.body.clientWidth` and `document.body.clientHeight`. The code imports the `select` function from D3 and applies no other visual elements, serving as a starting point for further visualization work.
