A bowl of fruit demonstrates special cases in the General Update Pattern with d3.v5, showing how SVG elements animate as apples are added, eaten, and replaced by lemons. Circles and text labels transition in and out over one second, with radius and color scales mapping fruit types. The example uses explicit `selection.selectAll`, `.enter()`, `.merge()`, and `.exit().transition()` calls to handle data-driven updates.
