This example displays a blank SVG canvas with a solid purple background. It serves as a minimal setup for starting an HTML-based D3 visualization project. The code creates an SVG element with specified dimensions and uses d3.select to reference it, then applies the background color through the style method. The page loads D3 version 4 from a CDN and includes a React starter alternative for comparison.
