This example demonstrates the D3 general update pattern by animating a bowl of fruit rendered as SVG shapes in a React app. It uses D3 v5’s `selectAll`, `enter`, `merge`, and `exit` methods to handle data changes: an apple disappears, another apple turns into a lemon, and a third is removed. The fruit is drawn with `circle` elements colored via `scaleOrdinal`, and the bowl is a static `rect` with rounded corners. Timed delays trigger the three state changes sequentially.
