This visualization displays the global total of COVID-19 deaths from the Johns Hopkins University CSSE dataset, showing a single number with a comma-formatted value and the last recorded date. The code loads a CSV time series via `d3.csv`, extracts the final column as the latest date, sums all country values using JavaScript’s `reduce`, and formats the total with `d3.format`. The result is displayed as text in a pre element via the DOM API.
