A visualization constructed using the vega-lite-api.

A program that loads and parses some CSV data from the Reflective Democracy American Sheriffs database.

The data has been cleaned in Excel to fix case discrepancies and remove percentage sign characters.

The visualization shows the count of sheriffs elected categorized by political party affiliation along the X axis. Colors represent racial identity of the elected official.

The data is categorized based on the racial identity of the Sheriff along the X axis and the percentage of the constituent population who is Black. Larger points indicate larger overall populations and point color indicates the politial party affiliation of the elected official.

Communities with higher Black or African American populations are more likely to elect a non white sheriff.
