A program that loads and parses some CSV data from the Fatal Police Shootings Database compiled by the Washington Post

I used the U.S. Geo Map of State Boundaries projected using GeoAlbersUsa for the underlying map.

The mapping portion of the project is adapted from Mass School District Boundaries from the DataVis class. The chart and interactive legend portions are adapted from Interactice Color Legend from the DataVis class.

This visualiazation allows the user to explore geographic trends in the data based on interactively selected attributes including flee status, race, gender, threat level, use of a body camera, and signs of mental illness in the victim. Upon selection, the geomapped marks change color to reflect the given value in the underlying data. The chart in the bottom right of the visualization changes with the selection to reflect the overall count of each attribute within the selected category. For a more clear picture of a specific attribute within the selection, hover over the legend to see the geographic distribution.
